But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one. — 2 THESSALONIANS 3:3
Though Honduras is one of the most violent countries in the world, we still have the responsibility to live out the gospel in our daily lives without fear. In this way, our testimonies shine as lights and bring God glory, as we entrust ourselves to the faithful care of our Lord. No matter what your circumstances are, God is faithful, and He will protect you from the evil one.

This text vividly reminds me of my childhood when my mother took us to church, walking almost four miles each way. Fourteen of us traveled by foot to morning and evening services almost every Sunday. It wasn’t easy, but it was worth it because we learned about the gospel, and I was able to see the providential hand of God caring for us as we walked through the rain, the heat, and, frequently, real danger. I still thank God for His care and faithfulness.
In this passage, the apostle Paul speaks of his own life experiences and afflictions. The brethren at Thessalonica had come to his aid to encourage him through his difficulties and temptations, but Paul assumed the work of a pastor even with the existing dangers. In doing so, he thought more of the sheep than himself. He was more interested in what God could do for the Thessalonians than what God might have done for him.
It is remarkable that God gives us His strength to guard and preserve us in the faith. Paul here is convinced that the Lord will strengthen us in our weaknesses and shelter us from evil; and because of this, believers are able to obey the apostles’ teaching.
