Declaring His Glory Among the Nations

April 25 — Consider the Great Things

Episode Summary

Only fear the Lord and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you. — 1 SAMUEL 12:24

Episode Notes

In times of trouble we tend to forget who is the King. In such times, it is so easy to panic, to start grumbling at God, to be angry, even to solve the problems in a wicked way. All of this is sin against Him. In cases like this my wife often says to me: “Look what God has done for us. All the good we have thus far is because of His care. Are you sure that He wouldn’t care about us further?”

Times of troubles, anxiety, and worry—these are realities in life we are well acquainted with. These times are fertile soil for panic, rash decisions, and sin.

Being in a season like this, Israel decided to ask for a king to reign over them (1 Sam. 8:1–6). God considered their request as a rejection of Him. They wanted a king to be a source of deliverance for their nation, so they would be like all the nations.

So, God gave them a king but admonished them in our verse to trust in and worship Him because He’s the only One who demonstrated a power to support and change life. We, too, can be in a hurry to seek deliverance outside of Him—we can forget what He has done for us.

What problems do you have today? Is your work difficult? Is your family in shambles? Stop panicking. Consider what great things He has done for you. Then you’ll have the right perspective, and will find the strength to fear the Lord and serve Him in truth with all your heart.
