Declaring His Glory Among the Nations

December 11 — The Wisdom of Christ and His Word

Episode Summary

I say this so that no one will delude you with persuasive argument. — COLOSSIANS 2:4

Episode Notes

How do I raise my children? How do I treat my spouse? What should I do with my life? What kind of job should I pursue? How do I handle my emotions? How do I handle my finances? How should I consider others and myself? These and other life questions will be answered differently by human wisdom than by Christ and His word. Do not be deceived with persuasive arguments, but instead be firmly rooted and built up in Christ and His word. They are all you need!

This text is warning us against being deceived by persuasive human wisdom. Instead, we know Christ, in whom are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Col. 2:2–3).

The primary industry in Spain is tourism. After France and the USA, Spain receives the most international visitors. In 2016, more than 75 million people visited Spain, almost double its population. When you are a tourist anywhere in the world, it is easy to be deceived by the local “picaresca” who con and steal from unsuspecting foreigners. Not knowing the language and culture leaves any visitor as an easy prey for these “picaros.”

Sadly, many believers are like spiritual tourists. Christians who have not been firmly rooted and built up in Christ (Col. 2:7) are at risk of being easily deceived by human wisdom, holding to merely a form of godliness. Today, many churches and believers are in jeopardy of being taken captive through philosophy and empty deception, by wisdom that follows the traditions of men and the elementary principles of the world (Col. 2:8), rather than Christ and His word.
