Today, we as believers celebrate and remember the amazing truth that God sent His only begotten Son. He did not send Him as a conquering king or as a triumphant warrior. He sent Him as a humble, lowly, helpless baby, in the midst of the filth and stench of animals and human sin. From the beginning to the very end, Jesus’ was a life of humiliation. The One who alone should have been worshiped as God came in the likeness of sinful flesh (Rom. 8:3) so that He might redeem us from the curse of our sin. What a Savior we have!

This is perhaps the most universally well-known Bible verse, and for good reason! God’s love for the world is truly a thing to behold. For those of us in Christ, we realize that it surpasses all human understanding and logic. The sacrificial love of a Father who sends His only begotten Son to bring eternal life to a dying world through His own death—it is too much! It amazes us and leaves us with our mouths open in astonishment.
