When we, as believers, encounter more and more difficult trials, each one of us must have strong faith in the Lord and unshakeable trust in Him. Such was the case in the life of David. In Psalm 27, David describes a situation when he was faced with many enemies (Psa. 27:2–3, 12). David, however, as a true believer in God, obtained courage and strength by trusting the Lord. Surrounded by enemies, he is sure that the Lord will defend him. Counting on this, David says to himself, “Wait for the Lord; be strong and let your heart take courage; yes, wait for the Lord.”

In our country, it is often said: “Trust in the Lord, but don’t slip up.” This saying, though it may sound biblical, misses the point. The emphasis in this saying is on man. However, the Bible places the emphasis differently. Although we are responsible to act wisely and rightly without straying, we are called to trust not in ourselves but in the Lord! “Don’t slip up, but trust in the Lord!” would be more biblical.

The words from David are ones we need to hear today. Wait on the Lord! God will always help on time. Wait on the Lord and take courage! Wait on the Lord and strengthen your heart with hope in Him! You can always rely on Him—rely only on Him and on no one else. He will never let you down. He who trusts in the Lord will never find himself in a hopeless situation.
