Until we grow in being unashamed of the gospel and specifically gain a glimpse of the horrors of God’s wrath, we will never begin to see the horror and beauty of the cross, which motivates our evangelism. When we know what awaits the wicked, we are motivated to evangelize individuals and masses of unbelievers. We are motivated to evangelize people in our community and churches when we realize that many have deceived themselves into thinking that they are part of God’s people, yet they are not.

It is common to hear people talk about how they fear sharing the gospel in certain contexts, because of the antagonism that they may suffer. A biblical antidote for this dread is a healthy dose of fear toward God, which enables you to not be ashamed of the gospel.
In today’s passage, Paul indicates that man cannot attain a righteous status apart from God and the gospel. Men are utterly lost and cannot be saved except through God’s good news. What are unbelievers being saved from? Paul says outside this righteous gospel, nothing but the wrath of God ought to be expected (Rom. 1:18). The gospel has a unique focus on God’s wrath. Because of His anger toward sinners, God had to transfer His wrath toward His adopted children onto His only begotten Son, and then crush that Son.

When we know what awaits the wicked, we are motivated to evangelize individuals and masses of unbelievers. We are motivated to evangelize people in our community and churches when we realize that many have deceived themselves into thinking that they are part of God’s people, yet they are not.
Are you unashamed? Then remember your duty and go preach the gospel so that others are persuaded and saved from the wrath of God. The person who truly understands the fate of the sinner will be motivated to preach the gospel without hesitation (Acts 17:30–31).
