David was in awe of God’s infinite knowledge and His all-pervading presence. He realized that nothing about him escapes the mind of God and that there is nowhere that he can go where God is not present. This is because God is his Creator, Designer, and Sustainer. David was in God’s mind even before his conception. His very life was written in God’s book even before he was born. He, with the rest of mankind, is indeed, “fearfully and wonderfully made”!

As the pinnacle of God’s creative act, human beings are unique in all of creation. We bear God’s image and likeness. We are given authority to rule over other creatures, and the responsibility to cultivate this good earth. We are set apart by these things.

Our intellect, creativity, emotions, passion, and complexity evoke awe and wonder. But they are not just a source of amazement. Human beings, unlike animals and plants, can process the beauty of God’s design and respond to Him in praise and thanksgiving!

So, if you find yourself dry and without reason to magnify God, you don’t need to look far. Reflect on your very life. Be in awe of God’s design of the human body, in the systems and processes that keep you alive. Reflect on your daily experiences, and marvel at how He directs them into a grand story of goodness.

And, when you are tempted to live life according to your rules, remember the Creator who wove every fiber of your being for His glory. The life you have is a gift of grace, and it must rightfully be an offering of praise.
