Declaring His Glory Among the Nations

February 2 — A Holy Calling

Episode Summary

[God] has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity. — 2 TIMOTHY 1:9

Episode Notes

Are you living for the One who died for you? Remember God saved us with a holy calling; living for yourself is sinful, and an affront to God, who has showered us with grace. The more we understand the grace of God, the more we understand how much we owe God. Point people to God’s grace in Christ.

Episode Transcription

Every breath that humans take proves that our Creator is gracious. But God’s grace toward believers is unique, for in Christ He gives them eternal life when they deserve eternal death.

By the grace of God we are saved. When we were infinitely incapable of saving ourselves from our sins (Eph. 2:1), God sent His beloved Son to save us (Matt. 1:21). Christ is the channel for God’s grace. This grace in Christ was granted for us in eternity; therefore, if you and I have repented and believed in Jesus, it is because God in eternity sealed our salvation in Christ.

God saved us and called us to a holy life. We are saved to serve God, to be His witness in every circumstance—not just in blessing but also in the midst of suffering.

Recently I was encouraged by my friend’s faith when, strengthened by God, he stood strong amidst persecution. When a mob attacked him for being a believer, he could have denied his faith, but he did not. He prayed to his heavenly Father, “Lord, this life is Yours, let Your will be done.” What an example that the God who saved us will also strengthen us when we suffer for the gospel.
