Though the corruption of our society saddens us, it is mortifying when such thinking infiltrates our churches. Like the Corinthians, we must be reminded that the physical body is not insignificant and, thus, we cannot use it to please ourselves. On the contrary, the body is for the Lord, and the Lord for the body (1 Cor. 6:13).

Since the Fall, men and women have shamelessly exposed their bodies to all kinds of sinful pleasure and vice with the rationale that we have an innate right to do as we please with our bodies. Society encourages the individual to pursue his wildest dreams and to experience ultimate thrill and excitement in life by indulging in any and every bodily whim. Sexual immorality is at the peak of all sinful, bodily desires.
The Latin American culture screams out for this freedom of using the body in any which way. In years past, it was considered a logical and ethical practice for parents to expose their early-teenage sons to immoral relationships with illicit women in order to stimulate “manliness” and prevent their boys from developing homosexual desires.
This shameful practice had a rationale: since man has liberty to use his body as he wishes, why not use it for a “seemingly good” cause? This depraved way of thinking is only one example of how society misuses the body.

Paul fortifies this argument with a final and uncontested truth—we are the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit and we have been bought with a price. Therefore, believer, your body was costly and it is significant to God; dare not to use it as you please!
