The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. — 2 TIMOTHY 2:2
Leaders must identify men who are faithful and able to teach others. Paul repeats these qualities in 1 Timothy 3:2, where he writes that an elder should be above reproach and able to teach. It is important for our church leadership to have these qualities so that they can discharge their responsibility of training up the next generation.

Pastoral ministry involves receiving and faithfully passing on the truths that Christ gave to the apostles during the foundation of the church.
In this verse, the apostle Paul instructs Timothy to train men for leadership in the local church by entrusting them with the teaching that he had received from Christ. From the time of the early church, the apostles trained up spiritual leaders by passing on to godly men what Jesus had taught them.
As a pastor, I am aware that God has entrusted me with sound doctrine that I am to pass on to others. Those who receive it, in turn, are charged to equip the next generation. A pastor, therefore, does not invent his own teaching or appoint himself; he receives training from others who have come before him. Similarly, a pastor also must have his own disciples, so that he may entrust to them what he has received himself. It is the same doctrine and same gospel that has been passed from generation to generation, which must be passed to the coming generations, as well.
