Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; for You I wait all the day. — PSALM 25:5
The inspired poet calls out to God, “Lead me … teach me,” but that can only happen by means of truth. David said, “Your words are truth” (2 Sam. 7:28); and God desires this truth to be in the heart of His children (Psa. 51:6). The one great need for every person is to know the truth, which is why it is my joy to train preachers, those who convey God’s truth. Without truth, we cannot be saved or grow spiritually.

What’s behind the psalmist’s plea for learning? What explains his desire for knowledge? Context tells us that his enemies hated him and sought his destruction. The memory of his past sins afflicted his conscience, as well. Moreover, he wanted his family to be safeguarded in the truth.
In the same way, our difficulties should move us to seek the Lord, open the Scriptures, and pray, “Teach me.” As we remember our past failures, we should ask God to lead us away from temptation. For the good of those we love, we should plead to the Lord to guide us.

Remember, God leads and teaches His people by the truth of His word. This psalm teaches and encourages us to pray to understand that truth.
