Declaring His Glory Among the Nations

January 6 — Walking in Holiness

Episode Summary

No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it. — 1 CORINTHIANS 10:13

Episode Notes

Temptations are common to all mankind. If others have succeeded, so can we. The ability to defeat such temptations comes from God, who remains faithful, never allowing them to be greater than the strength He provides. He always provides a way to escape and thus succeed.

Episode Transcription

One of the things that I’ve enjoyed most in life has been to teach my children to walk. To see them take their first steps and walk in a suggested direction brought satisfaction to my heart and theirs. Usually it would lead us to celebrate with laughter and a hug. Each of them faced the same difficulties, risks, distractions, and weaknesses, but they responded in different ways. Sometimes they lost sight of my hand, deviating in their own direction, but my love as a father led me to stay by them to avoid letting them fall.

In the same way, we are God’s children, and He has given us a path to follow with good works that He expects us to complete until we reach His heavenly abode. During our “walk,” we are constantly tempted to sin against God’s holiness; however, we are called to respond to these trials and temptations in such a way that our lives reflect the holy character of God. Paul tells us in this verse that, although the temptations are many and different, none of them are out of the ordinary. Temptations are common to all mankind. If others have succeeded, so can we. The ability to defeat such temptations comes from God, who remains faithful, never allowing them to be greater than the strength He provides. He always provides a way to escape and thus succeed.

You can overcome temptation in your life. You can faithfully endure whatever you might be facing. Through prayer and Scripture, He will help you walk, like a father with his child, in the straight path of holiness.
