Our Lord made our bodies with this seemingly insignificant member that serves such a crucial function. In the same way, He outfits His body, the church, with members who are not publicly noticeable or who do not have more visible gifts, yet are vital to the proper health of the body.

Christians are all members, without exception, of the one body of Christ. It does not matter our nationality, social position, economic level, academic skills, or denomination. Each one of us is an individual and equally important member of the universal church (Christ’s body).
God’s Spirit has provided us with specific gifts to serve the other members of Christ’s body. Nevertheless, when we serve, we sometimes forget how important our God-given gifts are. We are prone to think that some gifts are insignificant or that publicly visible gifts matter more.
Consider one member of the human body, the kidney. This organ is smaller than a mobile phone, yet every day it can purify more than fifty gallons of blood, eliminating a wide variety of dangerous chemicals.
Our Lord made our bodies with this seemingly insignificant member that serves such a crucial function. In the same way, He outfits His body, the church, with members who are not publicly noticeable or who do not have more visible gifts, yet are vital to the proper health of the body.
Let’s remember that God has placed each of us within the church, fitting us together with others in just the right place for His purposes to be accomplished. He has provided us with all we need to serve Him and our fellow believers in the most relevant and worthy way, even though sometimes it might not seem like it. Think about your interests, abilities, and the opportunities God has granted to you. Are you using them to the fullest, for the benefit of your local church?
