What he knew of God propelled him to a life and ministry of faithfulness, regardless of the circumstances that faced him.

God commissioned Isaiah into a very challenging ministry. He was to call God’s people to repent as they were drifting further and further away from the Lord. He was to address an audience whom God already said would hear but not understand, would see but not perceive (Isa. 6:9). Isaiah was to deliver a message to a people who were both unteachable and uninterested in what he had to say.
The story of Isaiah’s life shows that he remained faithful to his commission, having served through the reign of four Judean kings (Isa. 1:1). He ministered as a prophet for about sixty years in total.
How did he remain faithful throughout all those years against all the challenges that he faced? Isaiah’s faithfulness to his commission was grounded on a clear and compelling conviction about God’s character. Witnessing the seraphim sing “Holy, holy, holy” to each other left a strong impression on Isaiah. “Holy One of Israel” was one of his favorite ways to refer to God, using it a total of 26 times in his book. What he knew of God propelled him to a life and ministry of faithfulness, regardless of the circumstances that faced him.
Like Isaiah, you too have a Great Commission from the Lord. How well do you know the God who commissioned you? A clear conviction about God’s character is the foundation for a lifelong ministry of faithfulness to the Lord. Only as you share in Isaiah’s awe of God’s holiness will you share in Isaiah’s faithfulness in saying, “Here am I. Send me!”
