Declaring His Glory Among the Nations

June 18 — A Compassionate Father

Episode Summary

Just as a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him. — PSALM 103:13

Episode Notes

How do we see God’s compassion? To think that He forsook His son, Jesus, on the cross, so that He never needs to forsake you! To those in Christ, God is not a strict judge, but rather a loving father.

Episode Transcription

When I was growing up, fathers were hardworking providers, but also strict and distant. One day I was helping my dad pick apples in the orchard behind our house. I was trying too hard to do a good job and fell off the ladder. I thought he would be angry at me. He hurried over to help me up and then spoke very kindly to me. I will always remember that as one time when I saw his compassionate side.

In Psalm 103, David tells the people of Israel to bless the Lord because of His actions (Psa. 103:6-7) and His attributes (Psa. 103:8-9). He also speaks of God’s forgiveness and compassion (Psa. 103:3, 8-10, 12-13). In this context, David compares God to a compassionate father. In the same way that a father has compassion on his children, God has compassion on those who fear him.

How do we see God’s compassion? To think that He forsook His son, Jesus, on the cross, so that He never needs to forsake you! To those in Christ, God is not a strict judge, but rather a loving father.

Let’s thank our heavenly Father for His compassion. And pray that we might show that same compassion to those around us.
