Who is like Me? Let him proclaim and declare it; yes, let him recount it to Me in order, from the time that I established the ancient nation. And let them declare to them the things that are coming and the events that are going to take place. — ISAIAH 44:7
When the nature of God is considered in the book of Isaiah, it is clear that He is the only God, that He “established the ancient nation” Israel, and that He will keep His promise to them. Not only that, but being omniscient, God knows “the things that are coming and the events that are going to take place.” God has a plan, He is true, and we are called to wait upon Him.

When you experience hurt, what brings you most comfort? Is it a philosophical argument on suffering, or the fact that an all-wise, all-powerful, all-loving God has ordained your trial for a specific purpose, and that He will never leave nor forsake you?
Having a high view of God and His attributes is critical in times of discouragement or uncertainty, and so it was with ancient Israel in the context of Isaiah 44. Because of their sin, the Israelites faced removal from the land God promised them (Gen. 12). With hope diminishing, many asked if God would abandon them completely.
Ensuring a God-centered focus, this verse begins with the power of a question, “Who is like Me?” As in a court of law, God challenges any rival by drawing attention to Himself. He lays the hope of Israel upon His character, and not upon her circumstances. To solidify the point, he calls any contender to “proclaim and declare it,” and to “recount it to [Him] in order.”
