Episode Transcription

How dark the world is! How dark many lives are! Sin and its consequences—poverty, disease, and war—are all around us. Many are fleeing their homes to escape fighting and famine. Others might have a measure of prosperity but lack true peace in their hearts. There are so many who need rescuing.

In Colossians 1:13, the apostle Paul reminds us that our heavenly Father has already worked out His plan of redemption. He sent Jesus to rescue us from this terrible dominion of darkness! We were living in sin and despair, following the course of this world, but through the death of His own beloved Son, God delivered us from sin and gave us spiritual life.

There are only two realms of humanity in Scripture: the domain of darkness and the kingdom of Christ Jesus. These two realms have different masters. The first is characterized and ruled by darkness. The second is characterized and ruled by the King of Light, Jesus. For those of us who have been rescued from the domain of darkness, we now have a new master and a good king. This verse reminds us that Jesus both rescues and reigns.
