Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. — HEBREWS 4:14
The author of Hebrews purposefully places Christ at the center of our faith. Christ Himself, His superiority and His sacrifice for salvation, is the main object of our confession. As this truth is attacked by enemies of the gospel, it is imperative that we are convinced of it. This truth is necessary so we can make use of His exceptional high priestly ministry before God in prayer. Our faithfulness to Christ is manifested in a daily choice to be constant in prayer and to strive to glorify God in our lives.

The Russian Orthodox Church instructs people to pray to the saints, who are looked upon as advocates and intercessors able to appease God for our sake. However, the author of Hebrews informs us that there is only one Intercessor and He is perfect. The writer turns our attention to Jesus Christ, the faithful and merciful High Priest, who gives us access to the throne of grace through prayer.
This can radically change your relationship to prayer, which is a privilege you have obtained through the blood of Jesus Christ! When you stumble and fall in your prayer life, raise your head once again and look to Christ, for He alone is your salvation—both in the present and in the consummation in the future. Turning to Jesus Christ, we don’t pray to or rely on the services of a human intercessor, but we open our hearts to God’s Son!
However, let’s not forget that the intercessory ministry of Christ arouses us to faithfulness: “Let us hold fast our confession.” This faithfulness is born out in obedience, dedication, responsibility, stability, conviction, and boldness.
