Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery which has been kept secret for long ages past, but now is manifested, and by the Scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the eternal God, has been made known to all the nations, leading to obedience of faith; to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ, be the glory forever. Amen. — ROMANS 16:25–27
There is no greater relief for the downcast soul, no greater answer to the heart of doubt, and no greater encouragement to the weak of faith than a reexamination of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Whether through the inerrant word of God or through sermons faithful to it, keep the gospel near!

The gospel is the preaching of Jesus Christ (Rom. 16:25). It is the good news of God revealed in God’s Son (Rom. 1:3–4). It is the message that was “kept secret for long ages past, but now is manifested” (Rom. 16:25–26). It was promised beforehand by the prophets of the Old Testament and revealed by the Spirit to the apostles of the New. It is a universal declaration of forgiveness and eternal life in the name of Jesus for all who would repent and believe, regardless of family, background, or status.
The gospel accomplishes salvation in those who believe (Rom. 1:16). Moreover, it is the way God establishes us and strengthens our faith. Do you want a more vibrant faith, firmer convictions, and greater trust in God? These all come by the gospel, by the preaching of Jesus Christ. We don’t try to discover a magic formula or wait for a bolt from heaven. We don’t look for a mountaintop experience or a burning in the bosom or writing on the wall or a slaying of the Spirit. We look to the gospel of Jesus Christ; and by it, we are firmly established and led to greater obedience of faith (Rom. 16:26).
