Are you curious about what it is like to live in another country? Have you ever thought of the adventure of tasting new foods, seeing new places, and meeting new people? If your answer is “yes,” it might surprise you that some would answer “no” because they fear the idea of living in a new country. They fear meeting new people who look different and speak a different language. They fear living in a place that is unfamiliar to them in almost every respect.

In this Psalm, David places his confidence in the Lord because it is the Lord who gives him reason not to fear (2 Tim. 1:7). He did not just clench his teeth and generate bravery from within; he looked to God! David, knowing the Lord’s power, had no reason to fear because he knew his life was in the Lord’s hands (Psa. 23:4; 46:1; 1 Pet. 5:6–7).

We, too, can trust in the Lord to lead and guide us in all of life’s situations. We can have faith in His sovereignty to oversee everything. We can overcome the anxieties involved with evangelizing our neighbors, the panic of struggling finances, the worries of illness, or the threat of enemies. Whether we are missionaries on a foreign field or the salt and light in our own country, if we look to God He will be our defense!

Are there any responsibilities or challenges in your life that cause you dread? Keep your eyes on God and He will lead you through them, for He is our light and our salvation.
