Declaring His Glory Among the Nations

September 3 — Blood Must Be Shed

Episode Summary

Without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. — HEBREWS 9:22

Episode Notes

I spent a good portion of my life seeking to be approved by our Savior. I did not want to be just another Christian—I wanted to do great things for the Lord. I tried hard, I spent myself, and if I could sacrifice my life in the jungle, I would have done it—yet Christ was not mine.

Episode Transcription

This verse lays before us the oldest and the most significant need for all people. The greatest need that is always relevant can be stated in a question, “How can I be forgiven by God?” Long ago Job expressed this need when he fell to the ground and exclaimed, “How can a man be in the right before God?” (Job 9:2).

I spent a good portion of my life seeking to be approved by our Savior. I did not want to be just another Christian—I wanted to do great things for the Lord. I tried hard, I spent myself, and if I could sacrifice my life in the jungle, I would have done it—yet Christ was not mine.

Friend, maybe you’re trying to do the same. Maybe you’re trying to reach heaven in your own strength, but as much as you serve and strive, you cannot save yourself. Hear the message of our verse today: “Without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.” Yet hope is found in the One who shed His blood so sinners could be forgiven, the Lord Jesus Christ. Oh, how sweet it is to ponder upon such a great gospel. It does not matter how vile and frail you are; if you have trusted in Christ, He has forgiven you your sin! Stop now and consider the following words from a beloved hymn—may they stir your heart to praise the Lamb of God, our Savior Jesus.

A guilty, weak, and helpless worm, on thy kind arms I fall;

Be thou my strength and righteousness, my Jesus, my all.
